At Francesca’s Dawn Farm we produce grass fed and finished Devon beef and pastured pork. We also have a small herd of Jersey cows who provide milk for raw milk cow shares.
Our herd of beef cattle consists of American Milking Devon (AMD) and Red Devon cattle. These heritage breeds produce tender and flavorful beef with no grain. They are supplemented with hay only during the winter months. We practice intensive rotational grazing and the cattle are moved every 1–5 days to new pasture, depending on temperature, available shade, and access to water.
Our pork is currently produced entirely from Gloucestershire Old Spots (GOS) pigs, another heritage breed which originated in England. Beginning summer 2017 we will have pork produced from our first Red Wattle pigs and Red Wattle/GOS crosses. Our pigs spend their entire lives outdoors in clear cut areas of our farm and are moved frequently to fresh areas. Their diet is supplemented with non-GMO/soy free feed, milk and whey from our Jersey cows, and vegetables from our garden.
Our Jersey cows are grassfed most of the year and supplemented with non-GMO alfalfa pellets and/or hay year round. During the winter months they also receive a few pounds of non-GMO/ soy-free grain at milking time.
